The above Tariffs are mentioned on the basis of 5*/4* properties like Leela, Ramada, Lake Palace etc.

Tip:1 The cost of stay and hosting a wedding in Kerala is relatively cheaper and that of other beach destinations in India, Goa especially, where prices touch the sky during wedding season. You could enjoy a more beautiful and serene wedding amidst the nature in Kerala.

Tip: 2 You may get a good discount on rooms if you book through charter websites, but then you should also know the same discount isn’t valid for group bookings. The above mentioned tariffs are for wedding season specifically, which is generally observed from October to March every year. Tariffs may also vary depending on month/season/festivals. However you may save some bucks by availing a discount on these tariffs by planning your celebration in the off season. You could avail a discount up to 20% on room tariffs. So, you need to make your decisions vigilantly.

VENUE

Each 5*/4* properties have venues which could cater to your pre wedding and wedding functions. Venues could be anything like AC Banquet, lawn area, swimming pool area or any special area of the property dedicated for wedding functions.

Unlike properties in Goa, properties in Kerala may not charge you for the venues, if you guarantee the minimum number of rooms for stay. But if there’s a charge, it could be something like below

Here is a basic understanding on venue charges:

•5* Property: Venue Charges may vary from INR 50K to 2Lacs + GST Per function (T&C)
•4* Property: Venue Charges may vary from INR 50K to 1Lac + GST Per function (T&C)
•HouseBoat: Charges may vary per person with or without food

FOOD

Breakfast is included in room tariff in most of the star properties, so you pay for another 2 meals and a snack, i.e. Lunch, Dinner & Hi-Tea respectively. Here is the breakdown on per person basis…

•5* Property: Lunch: INR 2500 + GST onwards, Dinner: INR 3000 + GST onwards, Hi-Tea: INR 1000 + GST onwards. Wedding Feast: Lunch or Dinner: INR 3500 + GST onwards.
•4* Property: Lunch INR 1500 + GST onwards, Dinner: INR 1800 + GST onwards, Hi-Tea: INR 800 + GST onwards. Wedding Feast: Lunch or Dinner: INR 3000 + GST onwards.

The cost mentioned above would be applicable for veg/non-veg meals. The cost per person of wedding feast may depend on the elaborate menu. You may also request DIY snack stalls or BBQ by paying extra charges.
You could calculate the cost of stay & food along with GST in the 5*/4*/3* properties on a per person basis.

DÉCOR

The cost of décor for wedding in Kerala may depend on your demand and availability of resources. For example: If you are looking out to decorate your functions with materials which could be locally sourced from that destination, then the costs are on the standard level. But then if you are looking out for something specific which would have to be imported, then décor costs may increase accordingly. Also costs may somewhat depend on your décor designer or planner (Please, I am not speaking of any flower decorator here), as they are likely to charge more or less depending on their creativity standards.

However there is a standard cost for standard décor for wedding in Kerala, India. Here is a general observation of décor for functions comprising 100 guests…

•Pre Wedding Function: Likely to be Engagement, Sangeet, Mehendi or any similar function: Décor starts from INR 2.5L + GST per function, this cost may include décor of structures, drapes, florals, lights, related props, also furniture to some extent.
•Wedding Function: Likely to be the Wedding day function followed by Reception: Décor starts from INR 3L + GST per function, this cost may include décor of several structures, drapes, florals, lights, related props, also furniture to some extent.
•Theme Party: Pool party, Bollywood sangeet, Masquerade themed reception are a few ideas of theme parties you could arrange to engage your guests, these have particular décor sets which may cost you from INR 3L + GST per theme.

Tip: Choose from natural and locally sourced elements for wedding in Kerala. Locally sourced elements would make the décor come to life.

Tip: If planning a backwater wedding, hire a houseboat for a pre wedding function like Haldi or Mehendi, decorate it with natural flowers and plan local entertainment for your guests.

•DJ with music console: A standard local DJ charges around INR 30K + GST onwards. However there endless limits if you want o spend, you can hire celebrity DJ who plays for high class parties, night clubs and savvy events at INR 80K+ GST onwards.
•Male/Female Anchor: To engage your guests, you have to hire good looking and appealing hosts. So the need of a standard Anchor/Male comes at a cost of INR 10K + GST onwards. However you may hire celebrity Anchor/Male who hosts fashion events, bollywood events at a cost of INR 30K + Taxes onwards. Female/Anchors are expensive you may have to shell out INR 15K + GST onwards for a standard and INR 40K + GST onwards for celebrity anchors. Also, you may note that you may have to bear the expenses of travel/food/stay of these artists, if they are not sourced locally.
•Mehendi Artiste: So, this is the most important service for any mehendi function and costs may vary. For bridal henna full hands/legs costs starts from INR 10K + GST onwards, whereas for individual guests cost starts from INR 2K + GST onwards, per guest.
•Lady singers with Dholki: A group of 6 ladies may come at a cost of around INR 25K + GST onwards

WEDDING FUNCTION

•Bride Entry in decorated boat: If considering a backwater wedding in Kerala, this idea of bride entry shall interest you. PHOTOGRAPHY + VIDEOGRAPHY

Certainly! This is one of the major aspects while comprehending the services cost of wedding in Kerala However the cost for this service depends upon the fame & quality of the photographer, but generally it could range from anything in the following:

•Candid Photography Stills: INR 25K + GST onwards Per Function
•Traditional Photography Stills: INR 15K + GST onwards Per Function
•Traditional Videography: INR 40K + GST onwards Per Function
•Cinematography/ Wedding Film: INR 60K + GST onwards Per Function
•Pre Wedding shoot: INR 20K + GST onwards for 8hours shoot
•Pre Wedding Video: INR 40K + GST onwards for teaser & film.

Also, you may note that you may have to bear the expenses of travel/food/stay of these artists, if they are not sourced locally. Guess you would not like to compromise and would need all the above mentioned photography services, so calculate your budget accordingly.

This is the most important service NOT ONLY for the brides but for the grooms as well.  But then, the charming service which helps you doll up for your bid day comes with a price tag! Now let’s evaluate the cost for this service:

•Groom Make up + Draping: INR 5K + GST onwards for the on wedding day, includes, make up, hair do, draping etc
•Pre Wedding Function Make up for Groom: INR 3K + GST onwards per pre wedding function includes, make up, hair do, draping etc.
•Make Up/ Touch up, per guest: INR 3K + GST onwards for per pre wedding/ wedding function includes, make up, hair do, draping etc.

LOGISTICS

An important aspect which cannot be overlooked while comprehending the cost of wedding in Kerala. Travel to the destination is generally paid by the guests themselves so I would skip this part.Travel within the destination which could be anything like airport/ station transfers, hotel to venue travel or going sightseeing. So the costs would be somewhat around the following:

•Luxury Bus, 49 seater: INR 25K + GST onwards for 8hours, cost may not depend on KMs in this case.
•AC coaches, 12 seater: INR 10K + GST onwards for 8hours, cost may depend on KMs or Hours, whichever is greater.
•AC Car 5-8 seater: INR 3K + GST onwards for 8hours, cost may depend on KMs or Hours, whichever is greater
•Vintage Car: INR 10K + GST onwards for 5hours maximum.

Tip: You may note, Kerala fine linked with the major cities of India and Abroad through Airways. Regular flights operate from Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Bangalore. Railways and Roadways are very developed and connect nearby cities.

So technically, you pay depending on your schedule and requirement.

Whenever we wedding planners propose a wedding planning budget to our prospective clients, prompt comes the question: could you please provide a cost break up for this destination wedding? And we gladly oblige. But questions get deeper thereafter, somewhat like this… I see that you have put floral décor in my pre wedding function. Do I know what flowers you are going to use? Do I get orchids? What fabric are you using for draping? Do I get a cost break up for flowers & drapes separately? I am taking full wedding planning services from you. Don’t I get wedding photography services complimentary? …and end of excitement that the wedding planner had all this while to plan this prospective wedding. This is because most of the ‘prospective clients’ do not understand that designing a professional wedding planning budget is a complex process, which a wedding planner reveals only to his/her ‘contracted clients’.

Being a prospective client you may have the privilege of information about the cost of destination wedding in India, generally. And as a wedding planner, this post is one of my attempts to answer the general questions asked by my prospective clients about the cost of destination wedding in India.

Pick any destination in India of your choice: Goa, Kerala, Rajasthan or Himachal, most common requirements are of:
Cost of food & stay in various star properties, décor of pre wedding & wedding functions, entertainment services, photography and make up services come under general inquiries. However, costs of all services cannot be generalized as this may depend on many fundamentals like availability of suppliers and quality materials, of the particular destination where you are planning to host your wedding.

Following are general understanding of cost of various services of destination wedding in India…

WEDDING PLANNER

Yes! This is the foremost service you should confirm, before you confirm any of the following services. A destination wedding could not be organized without the assistance of a wedding planner.
Why? You will only get the answer after you complete reading this article. So get set go… the roller coaster ride has just begun…

STAY & FOOD

Be it anywhere in India, this component comprises the major part of your wedding planning budget and it also depends on the type of properties you are interested to host your wedding. Here is an idea about star properties:

•Tariff of a standard room of any 5* property would be INR 15K + GST onwards

The above mentioned tariffs are based on the chain of 5*/4*/3* properties like JW Marriot, Radisson Blu, Fortune hotels respectively.

You may get a good discount on rooms if you book through charter websites, but then you should also know the same discount isn’t valid for group bookings. The above mentioned tariffs are for wedding season specifically, which is generally observed from October to March every year. Tariffs may also vary depending on month/season/festivals. However you may save some bucks by availing a discount on these tariffs by planning your celebration in the off season. The off season may depend on the destination itself, for example: June to September is an off season for Destinations in Rajasthan, whereas October to March are an off season for Destinations in Himachal or Uttarakhand. You could avail a discount up to 20% on room tariffs. So, you need to make your decisions vigilantly.

VENUE

Each 5*/4*/3* properties have venues which could cater to your pre wedding and wedding functions. Venues could be anything like AC Banquet, lawn area, swimming pool area or any special area of the property dedicated for wedding functions. Where 3* properties may have only one or two venues, 4* & 5* properties may have multiple venues.

Here is a basic understanding on venue charges:

•5* Property: Venue Charges may vary from INR 50K to 2Lacs + GST Per function (T&C)
•4* Property: Venue Charges may vary from INR 50K to 1Lac + GST Per function (T&C)
•3* Property: Mostly Free of charge with minimum guarantee of rooms.

T&C: 4*/5* property Charges on venues depend on certain circumstances i.e. If you are staying in a 3* property and hosting the functions in a 4*/5* property, then you may have to pay the venue charges along with the food & beverage charges per person. Whereas, if you give a minimum guarantee of rooms for stay say about 60-100 or above, then you may get venues free of charge.
You could calculate the cost counting your number of functions & guests and choice of property and then divide it per person.

FOOD

•3* Property: Lunch INR 900 + GST onwards, Dinner: INR 1100 + GST onwards, Hi-Tea: INR 500 + GST onwards. Wedding Feast: Lunch or Dinner: INR 2000 + GST onwards.

Bollywood dance troupes, folk dancers, singers, guitarists, piano players, celebrity anchors or on the top of all bollywood celebrities – all could be sourced, provided it satisfies your demand and fits your pocket.
Generally, the demand is of the following and the cost per service, if planning a destination wedding in India, is likely to be around what is mentioned below:

SANGEET FUNCTION

•Mehendi Artiste: So, this is the most important service for any mehendi function and costs may vary. For bridal henna full hands/legs costs starts from INR 10K + GST onwards, whereas for individual guests cost starts from INR 2K + GST onwards, per guest.

If you think that a destination wedding in Puri is cheaper on pocket, you should first read this article to the end to understand the facts before assuming a budget figure!

Before getting into vital reasons to support my statement, I would like to make few disclaimers being a wedding planner. First,The following reasons are depending on our first hand experience and not any third party. Second,We do not claim to under or overmine any destination, property, vendor or any other service providers, we are only sharing our ground experience. And finally, this piece of information is to only help the future couples to make a better choice on wedding destination and get the worth of their investment.

It is indeed too strainous to get a good bargain for Destination Wedding in the beaches. And India offers a few good destination options with Goa being the top prominent and expensive one. We took this as fact and decided to explore opportunities for Destination wedding in Puri, thinking that this destination would cost less (combining hotel stay, vendor services etc) as compared to Goa and could add to wedding destination list.

Nevertheless, Set on the shore of Bay of Bengal, Puri is a popular and pious city in Odhisa in Eastern India. The city is known for the world famous Jagannath Temple which is visited by thousands of devotees each day. Many Indians believe to tie nuptial knots in this city as it is considered sacred and divine. The beaches of Puri are natural wonders, fine white sands; roars of breakers rolling in from the Bay of Bengal will arouse your senses. The charm of the sea, warmth of the atmosphere and ample mouthwatering sea food makes Destination Wedding in Puri a hit!

Lets assume you are a group of 70 to 100 people looking out to celebrate a 2 Night and 3 day Destination Wedding in Puri. You may want to plan the stay at a good 5*/4* Property closer to the beach and major wedding festivities like Mehendi/Sangeet/Ceremony/ Reception etc to be planned at the same location, you may not have the idea of the possible options for stay and venues, how would the decoration work, are there any good suppliers in Puri, how about the photo & video… & so on, this is a typical requirement.

Okay, so here’s the itinerary and costs – Destination Wedding in Puri.

1) Accommodation/ Stay

This is one of the major element that eat up almost 50% of your wedding budget, particularly when you are paying for everyone’s stay, if not you may pay for the stay of your close relatives & friends.

NO 5* OR 4* Properties.

There are only few 3* properties, with moderate amenities that you may have to consider as your wedding hotel. No classic 5* or 4* properties like Taj, Radisson or Ramada etc even if you are ready to pay. Also, among the 3* properties there are limited number of beach properties which have the facilities like banquet , lawn , pool area etc to host destination wedding events. So. this could be a challenge of its own, if you consider a destination wedding in Puri.

Budget

A standard room of 3* Beach Property (which are limited in number) with all facilities would be at least INR 5000 to 7000 + Taxes, on EP (room only plan) Ideally, these 3* properties do not include airport transfer by coaches, but may offer on extra charges. (Taxes could be anywhere between 18-28%)

(Whereas, a standard room in 3* Beach Properties in Goa may cost anywhere around INR 6K-8K + Taxes with all facilities and breakfast included in room tariff, also airport transfers in coaches. You may get a special deal in spa and laundry as well. )

The above rates are valid from OCT-MARCH, during the other months you may avail a discount of 15% on room tariffs.

The Hotels allow an extra adult or 2 kids below 12 years of age in the same room & charge for it.

So the Calculation is straight forward

Number of Rooms X Number of Nights X Budget = Cost of Stay (Approx)

2) Venue, Food & Beverage

Deciding and hiring the venue and the cost of food and beverage form the second most important component. (if planning a destination wedding in Puri)

Venue Rental: INR 3Lacs and up

The venue rental depends whether or not the hotel caters for food and beverage. A 3* property would like to cater to the food and beverage for all your functions, but incase you like to bring your own caterer, you may have to pay a charge of INR 3Lacs and up as venue charges. Banquet, Lawn, Pool side are likely the venues for which you pay. So this is another add on to your budget for Destination wedding in Puri.

(Whereas, venue rentals for 3* beach properties in Goa are an inclusion with room tariff, if there’s a charge it is likely around INR 1-2Lac)

Food & Beverage

As we have already mentioned that room is availavle on EP plan so you have to pay for Breakfast + Snack + 02 meals

So the individual costs of meals are as follows:

For a 3* property (destination wedding in Puri)…

Breakfast + Lunch + Dinner + Hi Tea = INR 3500 + Tax and up Per Person Per day(This may include only veg meals, for non veg meals and elaborate menu you have to pay extra charges)

(For a 3* Property – Goa

Breakfast: Included + Lunch + Dinner + Hi tea = INR 2500 + Tax and up per person per day (This may include veg/ non veg meals, for elaborate menu you have to pay extra charges)

Liquor

A 3* property (destination wedding in Puri) charges as per actual or bottle rates of IMFL and Foreign Liquor. As far as Drinks (beverages like Water, Soft Drinks, Juices, Liquor, Wine, Mixers etc) are concerned, generally couples opt to pay as per actual consumption. Couples could bring their own liquor @INR 500 per bottle corkage.

(Liquor is cheap in Goa and 3* beach properties usually allow couples to bring their own liquor by paying a corkage amount)

3)The venue setup & decoration

This typically includes setting up the venue, Mandap, floral decoration and arrangements, Welcome entrances, Stages & backdrops, illumination & ambiance lighting, Table decoration, Props, Table linens & runners, dressed chairs with tie back and most of stuff related to it.

INR 7-8Lacs is a mandatory cost for standard decor (any elaborate decor would charge you extra) for 2-3 events including the wedding day decor. This is a standard package laid out by the 3* property itself, if you wish to take their decor services for your big day. On the contrary if you wish to hire your own decorator you may have to pay a 25% of the decor budget to the hotel as a royalty charge (we are not sure, what it royalty charge actually is anyway, you may inquire with the hotel, if you wish to)

As planners we charge INR 1.5-2L per pre wedding function and INR 2Lac onwards for wedding function.So for 2-3 events costs may come up from INR 500000 to 700000 on an average (applicable overall Indian destinations)

4) Music, DJ & Entertainment

You may choose from the folk music and dance for the entertainment of the guests which could be a unique refreshment but these are NO light on pocket and starts at a range of 35000 for folk dance and music show. (we could get you dancers of international level at this cost 😀 )

Other than that you if wish to hire varieties of DJ and performing artists like sufi singers, ghazal singers , belly dancers etc for entertaining your guests then that could be extra expense as these artists could not be sourced locally and have to be flown from other parts of India and you may have to bear their travel costs too.

5) Photography & Videography

It is advised to select and bring your own photographer or ask your wedding planner to get you one as there are limited number of good photographers in Puri, also work quality could not be guaranteed.

To give you an idea about the cost on an average, candid photography may cost from INR 45000 per day, however videography may range from INR 70000 per day. These are the standard rates if a photographer is chosen from a nearby metro city say Kolkata. Also the transportation + food + stay expenses of the photographer and its team have to be taken care by the bridal party.

6) Transportation within Puri

Transportation to Puri: Approx 60 km from Bhubaneswar Airport with intermittent flights connecting major cities like Delhi, Mumbai & Chennai. It is an overnight journey by train from Sealdah/Howrah Junction near Kolkata to Puri station.

Transportation within Puri includes travel from Airport/Station to Hotel and Back. Planning a small outing for few guests within the destination.

Individual AC Cars costs around INR 2000 per day on an average including 80kms max or 8hours of running with 5 guests max. You can hire AC coaches on the same basis at INR 4000 – 8000 per day with 12 guests max.

7) More Costs

There are several elements which would be present as per your preference and budget. Be it Wedding Procession (Baraat). Also the Top priority element for the bride… Vanity Artiste, it is better get an advice of your wedding planner before hiring any localite, same is the case for Mehendi Artiste.

There are suppliers on special demand…Return gifts, welcome notes, customized stationary, designer fireworks and the list is never ending.

Now that you have a lot of insight to what we meant in the headline about ‘destination wedding in Puri’ and you still want to consider this as your wedding destination and if you think a wedding planner can sort it all for you – you are NOT right completely. We as wedding planner could only help you in coordinating your event, sometimes in decor and entertainment, rest all is the Hotel’s monopoly and you can’t negotiate in that. So incorporate the cost of wedding planner only to coordinate your events. Hotels however would only do what they are paid for. Wait a minute! Did you pay another 3Lacs for coordination?

So, the overall idea of the budget would be INR 25 Lakh and up which could possibly include Stay+F&B+Décor+Entertainment for 2 Night celebration along with 100 guests. (T&C)

Oh! Did I mention the same would cost you in Goa!

As per Govt. of India, No events are allowed in the beaches of Puri. You have to host your functions at the hotel only, watching the sea from a distance.
It is advised to bring your own vanity artiste and photographer before hiring any localite.
Hire a professional wedding planner for coodination of the events or leave it on the hotel at extra charges!
